Detours | 10.4.24

Every once in a while, we encounter a detour. It could be while driving down the road, or it might be on the journey of life. Last week I sang for a large prayer breakfast event in Davenport, Iowa. The speaker for the event was Governor Mike Huckabee. Mike and I have been friends for over 10 years. We enjoy opportunities to be together to share thoughts and times of laughter. He has a great sense of humor.

This week I returned to Capitol Hill following the August break. August is not just a time for members to have some vacation and spend time with their families but it is also a time when members engage with constituents and even make trips to foreign countries to engage with leaders around the world.

Hot Time on Capitol Hill | July 12, 2024

I’ve just returned from Washington, DC, and have one more trip scheduled to the Hill before Congress takes their August break. When I return in two weeks, it will mark ten years of ministry on Capitol Hill. I never would have imagined such a long and impactful engagement in the halls of Congress.

“YOU SING, DON’T YOU?” | 5/17/24

On Tuesday I hit the ground running on Capitol Hill. As I entered a congressional office in the Cannon Building, I handed my note to the young intern sitting at the desk. He’s only been on the Hill for a couple of weeks. Before I left, he said, “You sing, don’t you?” After I said, “Yes,” he responded, “You’re Steve Amerson.” I was rather surprised but then Gavin told me he had grown up listening to my music and his parents were big fans.

I was back on Capitol Hill this week and my time there was intense with numerous divine appointments. Tuesday afternoon as I began delivering my notes in the Cannon Building, I encountered a representative who shared his belief that "we are on the verge of losing the country." It's a sentiment that many of his colleagues share.

And We’ll Give God the Glory | 9/29/23

This has been a full week. On Saturday I flew across the country to sing at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington, Connecticut. As I flew, I worked and occasionally checked the news. I saw a news report of a congressional wife who was filing for divorce from her husband whom I know quite well. I texted the member and let him know I was praying for him and hoped to see him in the next few days.
