I wasn't in Washington, DC this week but I kept an eye on the happenings there.
A representative initiated a text with me by saying, “This is a mess here in DC. Never seen anything like it.”
The Republican conference continues to have trouble settling on a Speaker of the House. I have relationship with virtually every name that is being considered. What will happen? Truly, only God knows. It seems that every candidate has an issue that others don’t like.
Fox News Capitol Correspondent, Chad Pergram, always says, “It’s about the math.” The magic number is typically 217 votes but that also depends on how many members are actually in Washington, DC.
As of this writing, it appears that Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio has the support of most of the Republican caucus to become Speaker but this is no sure thing.
In the meantime, we continue to hear of wars and rumors of wars. The people of God need to pray as never before.
I’ll be headed back to Capitol Hill for the event we are sponsoring, “A Night of Inspiration” with Michael W. Smith, on October 24th. Truly the Hill could use some inspiration and we are praying that this night will light a spark of revival on Capitol Hill. Please pray for this event.
In the meantime, I received this message today from a senate staffer: “I am a staffer for Senator (name withheld) and have been blessed to meet Mr. Steve Amerson as he has stopped by our front office a number of times since I started in May. His faith is always an encouragement, and I would love to be more involved with Capitol Worship during my time in DC. Thank you so much, and God Bless. LN”
Notes like this are a confirmation of the value of my presence on Capitol Hill.
Thanks for your prayers and encouragement.
- Pray for those on Capitol Hill.
- Pray for the nation.
- Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and around the world.
